What makes chrome look like chrome

Chrome has almost no colour of its own: it's a mirror. What you see is what it reflects. That's why a chrome render lives or dies on its surroundings. Logo Sculptor puts your logo in a dark studio with bright softbox strips and a gradient wall behind the camera. Flat faces pick up a smooth light-to-dark sweep, and every bevelled edge catches a bright line. As the logo sways, the reflections slide across it, and that sliding highlight is what makes chrome read as metal in a video.

Settings that suit chrome

  • Bevel: keep it at the middle or higher. Bevels are where the highlights live; a flat-edged chrome logo looks like grey plastic.
  • Depth: medium to deep. Thick sides give the reflections room to travel.
  • Motion: Sway shows the reflections best. Spin is bolder, and it shows the back of the logo, mirrored.
  • Background: the default dark studio flatters chrome. Tick "Transparent background" for a PNG you can place on anything.

Questions

Why does part of my chrome logo look dark?

Flat faces that point straight at the camera mirror the darker part of the studio. Tilting the logo, which Sway does, sweeps light across them. A higher bevel adds bright edges.

Can I get chrome on a transparent background?

Yes, as a PNG: tick "Transparent background" and download the PNG. MP4 video can't carry transparency.

Is it a real 3D model?

Yes. Your logo is traced, extruded and bevelled into a 3D mesh. Download it as GLB (with the chrome material) or as STL for 3D printing.
