Your photos never leave your device.

Grow-Up Reel is a web page that does all of its work inside your browser tab. There is no server that receives photos, no account and no storage on our side. This page explains exactly what happens.

What runs where

  • Loaded from this site: the page, its code, the face model files (about 15 MB, fetched once when you start) and the sample paintings if you try them.
  • On your device only: reading your photos and their dates, finding faces, lining them up, generating music, drawing every frame and encoding the video file.
  • Sent anywhere: nothing that comes from your photos.

The face model finds faces. It doesn't identify people.

The tool uses Google's open-source MediaPipe face detector and face landmarker, running locally. For each photo it finds where faces are and places points on the eyes, nose, mouth and outline of the face you choose, so the photos can be lined up and morphed. It does not compare faces with each other, build a face template, or work out who anyone is. When a photo has several faces, you pick the one the reel is about.

The points live in your browser's memory while the tab is open and are gone when you close it or press Start over. Nothing is written to cookies or local storage.

Consent

Before the tool looks for faces in your own photos it asks you to confirm that the photos are yours and that the people in them, or for children their parent or guardian, are happy for you to make the video. Please only make reels of people who would be glad to see them.

Enforced by the browser, not just promised

Every page on this site carries a Content Security Policy that tells your browser it may only connect to this site. Even if the code tried to send a photo somewhere else, the browser would block it. You can check this yourself:

  1. Open your browser's developer tools and the Network tab, then make a reel. Every request goes to this site.
  2. Or load the page, start a reel so the face model downloads, then turn on airplane mode. Making the reel still works.
  3. Or read the code: it's open source at github.com/theguysaccount/ai-memory-videos.

Counting visits

This site doesn't count visits at the moment. If counting is switched on later, it will be cookieless, it will never receive photos, file names, dates or anything you type, and it will be skipped when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.

The video you make

The finished video exists only in your browser until you download or share it. It carries a small "made with Grow-Up Reel" mark, and an end card if you leave that option on. The built-in music is generated by this site's code on your device.
