How to prepare your logo file for a clean 3D render

Published 2026-10-25

A 3D logo is traced from the outline of your file. Sharp edges and a clean background give a clean model; blurry, tiny or busy images give lumpy ones. Five minutes spent finding the right file pays off.

The best files, in order

  1. SVG. Vector artwork, crisp at any size.
  2. PNG with a transparent background, at least 800 pixels across.
  3. PNG or JPG on a plain background in one colour, at least 800 pixels across.

Where your logo file probably already is

  • Your brand folder or brand guidelines. Designers usually deliver SVG, PNG and EPS versions together.
  • Your website's code. Many sites embed the logo as an SVG.
  • The designer or agency who made it. Ask for "the SVG and a transparent PNG".

Exporting one yourself

  • Figma: select the logo's frame, then in the Export panel choose SVG (or PNG at 2× or larger), and export.
  • Adobe Illustrator: File › Export › Export As… and choose SVG, or PNG with a transparent background.
  • Inkscape (free): File › Save As… and choose Plain SVG.
  • Canva: download as PNG. The transparent-background option is part of Canva's paid plan; without it, download on a plain white background, and the tool removes the white.

Before you turn it into 3D

  • Remove taglines and small text under the logo if you can. Small type becomes thin, fragile shapes in 3D.
  • Crop to the logo. Extra empty space is fine; other elements on the page aren't.
  • One logo per file. A sheet of variations becomes one cluttered model.
  • Light logos on dark backgrounds work too. The background colour is detected either way.

What tracing does with colours

For chrome, gold, marble, glass and neon, the whole logo becomes one material, so colours don't matter. For "Your colours", each main colour becomes its own layer. Gradients and shadows are simplified into their main colours.

Can I use an EPS or PDF logo?

Not directly. Open it in a vector editor (Illustrator, Inkscape, Affinity Designer) and export an SVG or a large transparent PNG.
