Why did Google Glass fail, and when did camera glasses start selling?
Formed since 2026-10-25 · ledger #21
Social acceptance of always-present cameras and cheap on-device AI arrived by 2023.
Short answer
Google Glass sold to consumers as a $1,500 Explorer Edition from 2013 and stopped in January 2015 amid a privacy backlash; the enterprise edition ended in 2023. North, maker of Focals, was bought by Google in 2020. Ray-Ban Meta glasses (2023), with a camera and an assistant but no display, passed 2 million sales by February 2025, and EssilorLuxottica sold 7 million Meta glasses in 2025 alone.
