Myth check
Was Bird too early for scooter sharing?
Not a timing failure since 2026-10-25 · ledger #58
Lime ran the same model in the same years and reached profitability.
Short answer
Bird grew faster than almost any startup in 2018 and filed for bankruptcy in December 2023. Its rival Lime ran the same dockless scooters in the same cities and reported a profitable year in 2023. Same product, same cities, same years: the difference was execution and cost, not timing.
