Myth check
Was Segway too early for personal transport?
Not a timing failure since 2026-10-25 · ledger #59
Short trips went electric through a different, cheaper product.
Short answer
Segway launched in 2001 with predictions it would reshape cities, sold far fewer units than hoped, and in June 2020 its maker said it would stop making the original. Short urban trips did go electric, but through cheap shared kick scooters (2017 onward), a different product and model. Being right about the need is not being early with the product.

- Nothing was missing
E6 Behavioural norm - Who is in now
- Shared e-scooters (Lime and others)
founded 2017 - Why it is not timing
- The product was wrong at any date
The enablers it needed already existed; something else killed it.
